WHAT EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS ARE YOU BRINGING TO NEON THEATRE?

I’ve been writing and directing plays for more than twenty years. In my day job, I’m a film studies professor. I didn’t go to college for theatre, so I like to think I bring the fresh perspective of someone who’s self taught. The work I do and the environment I create is generally built out of my varied interests: cinema, sports, music, history. I try to take those various areas and smash them together into theatrical experiences that feel different.

WHY HAVE YOU CHOSEN TO JOIN NEON THEATRE?

I want people to see the live experience of theatre as important because of its transient nature. Its impermanence is really essential to how I think about it – we do it, and then it’s gone, and when it’s over, we erase any evidence that we were ever there. It’s like pulling a heist in a movie. They don’t usually get away with it, but I think we do.
